Gas Radio Control Cars - Gas Powered RC Cars
Gas radio control cars and trucks have been around for quite a while now. These gas powered rc cars and trucks truly run on gasoline as a fuel. Most commonly, the engines in these gas radio control cars are 2 stroke engines similar in design to those found in motocross motorcycles, chain saws, and weed eaters. These rc gas cars require a gasoline/oil fuel mixture. The 2 stroke engine commonly used in rc gas cars is lubricated from oil contained in the fuel mixture - there is not a separate oil reservoir as found in typical 4 stroke engines. In the case of nitro engines, they are also typically 2 stroke design with lubrication coming from oil mixed with the fuel. However, in the case of nitro engines the base fuel is not gasoline like that used in most gas radio control cars, but rather the base fuel for nitro engines is usually a methanol/nitromethane blend.
Here's an example of an older gas powered rc car - a Raco Super Modified 1/4 scale rc gas car. These particular models of gas radio control cars often had older Zenoah G23 and G2D 2 stroke gasoline engines...
One well known brand of engine used in gas radio control cars is Zenoah - which is a very popular brand used in many rc gas cars. There have been several generations of Zenoah RC engines used in gas radio control cars. One of the latest Zenoah engines is the G230RC - a 23cc displacement 2 stroke engine that is very popular in newer gas powered rc cars....
A 23cc 2 stroke gasoline engine like the Zenoah G230RC - which is known to be among the most powerful engines for rc gas cars - will put out around 2.5 HP from it's 23 cubic centimeter displacement in stock form (with the stock muffler). 23cc is around 1.4 cubic inches of engine displacement. The 2.5 HP from 1.4 cubic inches is very impressive; however it's still not as impressive as a big block nitro engine that can produce nearly as much power from only .21 cubic inches of engine displacement! That's more than 6X as much power/displacement from a stock nitro engine compared to a gas radio control cars 2 stroke gasoline engine. Some high performance race nitro engines can produce close to 3 HP from only .21 cubic inches of displacement! It is true that gasoline engines like the Zenoah G230RC used in rc gas cars can produce more power with a good tuned pipe, but even then the power/displacement ratio can't touch that of a high performance rc nitro engine.
