DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RC CARS AND RC TRUCKS
RC cars have some major differences in their design when compared to rc trucks. Most RC cars are intended to be used on-road only. On the other hand, RC trucks are typically made to handle off-road terrain. Each type has it's advantages over the other. RC cars are usually faster, lighter, more nimble, and handle better than rc trucks when the terrain is flat such as on pavement. However, when the going gets rough, rc trucks usually really shine with their increased ground clearance, long travel suspension, and lower hill climbing gears.
Here are some examples of typical rc cars...
You can see that these rc cars have very little ground clearance. That is intentional. The higher that rc cars sit off the ground, the higher the center of gravity, and the worse these type of rc cars will handle corners. Another feature of most rc cars is low profile tires. Very similar to full size sports cars, low profile tires on rc cars provide better road hugging handling. Some of the very things that make rc cars perform so well on-road, makes rc cars impractical for off road. Can you imagine one of those low riding rc cars trying to drive over bumpy or rough terrain?!?!
That's where rc trucks really perform best...
RC trucks usually have extra ground clearance to allow them to pass over obstacles found in off-road environments. Unlike rc cars, higher profile tires are also very common on rc trucks. In the case of monster rc trucks, HUGE tires and LOTS of ground clearance are the norm. In addition to more ground clearance, rc trucks also typically have lots of suspension travel. This allows rc trucks to run over uneven terrain and still keep all 4 tires in contact with the ground. In contrast, most rc cars would get high centered long before most rc trucks would even barely begin utilizing their off-road abilities. Many rc trucks are designed to look like full size trucks. Not only do rc trucks often look like full size trucks, they can perform as well off the road. In fact, if you scale up what these rc trucks are capable of doing, then there would not be anything in real life to the speed, jumping ability, durability, and excitement that rc trucks offer.
Now if only you could shrink yourself down to 1/10th or 1/8th scale and strap yourself into one of these rock crushing, ground pounding rc trucks.... or experience the neck snapping acceleration of a high powered rc car.... you'd be in for the ride of your life!
No matter which way you choose - whether it be rc cars for the on-road excitement or rc trucks for the off-road thrills - you'll be into levels of performance and fun that full size cars owners could only dream of achieving!
