Ofna claims 2.5HP from the Hyper 21 8 Port nitro engine! The original Hyper 21 engine was rated at 1.9HP. The newer turbo 8 port design allows more air flow, more power, and more FUN! The Hyper 21 8 port turbo nitro engine features high quality ABC engine construction, a 2 needle slide carburetor with composite body that minimizes heat transfer to air/fuel mixture and increases power, SG crank, HUGE cooling head, rear exhaust port, and a convenient pull start. SPECIAL NOTE TO SAVAGE OWNERS: The Hyper 21 8 Port has the same engine mount hole pattern as the stock Savage 21BB engine. This combined with the fact that the Hyper 21 8 Port and 21BB engines both have the same SG style crankshaft makes the Hyper 21 8 Port one of the easiest, bolt-in engine upgrades for the Savage! The header supplied with the Hyper 21 8 Port will not fit the Savage, but just use the stock Savage header. Transfer over the purple header gasket from the stock 21BB engine to the Hyper 21 8 Port. PLEASE NOTE: Weve responded to some customers recently who had questions about the Hyper 21 8 Port, and we decided to list some tips here.... The Hyper 21 8 Port engine is an ultra-high performance/high compression engine. The high compression is one thing that helps an engine generate more power. If you like POWER, then you want high compression. However, when a high compression engine like the Hyper 21 8 Port is brand new, it can be very difficult to start because the piston to sleeve fit is extremely tight until it is broken in properly.

BE CAREFUL NOT TO YANK THE PULL STARTER TOO HARD, AND DO NOT OVER-EXTEND IT AND RIP IT OUT!

We know that it can be hard not to over-extend the pull starter when a high compression engine is brand new and so tight. Just be careful. We suggest a couple ideas to help make it easier to start a tight engine...

1) Pre-heat the engine using a hair dryer. Heat up the outside of the cylinder throughly for several minutes. This helps the cylinder liner to expand and can help to slightly loosens up the piston/cylinder fit. The cylinder sleeve is brass and the piston is aluminum, so the cylinder should expland a little more than the piston. If you warm up the engine long enough, it should make pull starting easier. By the way, this should be obvious to most people... do NOT try to use a torch to pre-heat the engine!! A hair dryer is a safe choice.

2) Another idea is to loosen the glow plug a little so that some of the compression is bled off when you try to start it. After the engine is running, just quickly tighten down the glow plug again. This will relieve some of the cylinder pressure during starting and should help you get through the break in period. After break in, the engine should start easier after piston/cylinder have had a chance to properly wear into each other.

The Hyper 21 8 Port can be a little difficult to get to run right during break in. This is not uncommon - especially for ultra-high peformance nitro engines. If you follow the factory recommened break in procedure, the engine will be running VERY rich at first. This makes the engine run very poorly, but it is very important to help in proper break in. Try to follow the instructions that come with the engine. Once the engine is broken in and leaned out properly, it should really SCREAM! Just persist through the break in period, and you should be rewarded with an extremely powerful engine!

RECOMMENDATION: We strongly recommend that this engine be tuned along with a temperature gauge to ensure maximum performance and long engine life. In the past, these temperature gauges were expensive and most people did not want to spend that much money.
