The POWERFUL 2.7HP TEAM ORION WASP 26 is an incredible .26 BIG BLOCK nitro engine! The Team Orion Wasp 26 is made by Picco and is based on the Picco P3 engine design.
NOTE: A customer recently told us that the machining on the Wasp cooling head has changed a little. Minor cosmetic change... still silver, just a slightly different shape than what is shown in the picture above. Apparently, Team Orion did not want their Picco (Wasp) 26 version looking too much like the Ofna version.
This high quality Picco engine offers the best of both worlds... with its BIG .26 cu. in. (4.3 cc) displacement that helps generate BIG POWER and TORQUE at lower-midrange engine RPMs while the Picco design also gives extremely powerful HP levels at higher RPMs.
This amazing .26 engine is made by Picco - a very well known, high quality, high powered engine manufacturer in Italy. The Wasp 26 is based on the Picco P3 engine design and is rated at 2.7HP.
This engine has a composite carburetor body to reduce heat transfer to the carb and help increase power output. The composite carb design should also help enable solid tuning of the air/fuel mixture. The Wasp 26 also has a 14mm crankshaft, hard chromed cylinder sleeve (ABC construction), double bushing connecting rod, and a convenient pull start mechanism. The Team Orion Wasp 26 nitro engine comes with a high flowing 5 port + 2 by-pass port design.
SOMETIMES PEOPLE ASK IF ANY OF THE PICCO MADE .26 ENGINES (Werks Racing Picco P3, Team Orion Wasp 26, or Ofna Picco 26 Outlaw) ARE MORE POWERFUL?

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO SOME PEOPLE:
- Take advantage of the incredible power and torque of the Wasp 26 engine by gearing up with a 16T clutch bell (versus stock Savage 21 14T clutch bell) and getting more top speed as well as crazy acceleration! We sell the Ofna OFN10402 16T as well as HPIA991 16T clutch bells. Also, do not forget the Clutch Shim Kit OFN10099.
- The aftermarket HPI/Motor Saver Savage Air Filter (HPI72438) is very tight on the 16mm OD Wasp/Picco carb. We managed to squeeze one on, but it is way too much of a stretch for us to recommend this. In addition, the retaining ring on the Savage specific elbow that comes with HPI72438 does not interlock properly with the Picco carb. There is a greater risk that this could pop off. Not good! We recommend the Motor Saver MSBS1516 Air Filter Adapter Kit which has an elbow that fits the Wasp/Picco 26 carb better. Search on MSBS1516 at the top of any page of our store to see this adapter kit.
- For Savage owners, use the stock purple exhaust gasket before you attach the Savage header.
- Engine mount hole pattern is a standard pattern that is an exact drop in fit for the Savage (and many others).
- Needs a glow plug. Ofna recommends a long glow plug without idle bar for the Ofna Picco 26 Outlaw and since the Wasp 26 is basically the same Picco 26 engine, the Picco plug should work. Ofna part number is 51007. We would NOT recommend a HOT plug on this engine unless you are a nitro engine tuning expert and know what you are doing. We would recommend trying a MEDIUM temp plug like the 51007. We try to keep the recommended Ofna/Picco 51007 glow plug in stock.
ATTENTION MONSTER GT OWNERS: We were informed by an MGT owner that the hole threaded in the end of the Picco 26 crankshaft is bigger than the threaded hole on the stock AE .21 engine crank. This simply means that you will need a bigger screw to attach the MGT clutch bell to the Picco 26 engine. We highly recommend buying the inexpensive Ofna Clutch Shim Kit OFN10099 that we offer. It comes with some different screws and we would expect that one of them would work for this. In addition, the shims can be very helpful for setting up proper clearances when changing clutch bells.
OTHER RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS FOR THIS ENGINE (see bottom of page for the following recommended products & others):
1) Ofna Micro Infrared Temp Gauge OFN10155. We strongly recommend that this engine be tuned along with a temperature gauge to ensure maximum performance and long engine life.
2) Ofna Picco Medium Temperature Glow Plug OFN51007. This Picco glow plug is one that is recommended for the Picco 26.
3) HPI Savage Big Block Polished Tuned Pipe HPI86138. Very nice tuned pipe for the HPI Savage trucks.
4) Hot Bodies Polished Savage Tuned Pipe HB61193. Another low cost Savage truck tuned pipe option.
5) Ofna Micro Fail Safe OFN91002. This fail safe is a very good investment to protect a Picco 26 powered land missile!
ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION: Some people have found that this engine wants to run hot. We have read that running with BLUE THUNDER SPORT (20% nitro) fuel can help to keep engine temps down. Apparently, people have tried this fuel and have seen lower running temps. We do not stock this fuel, but it should be readily available. In addition, we have found that running this engine with the Low Speed Needle (LSN) adjusted 1-2 more turns out past flush seems to help lower temps. You will also probably need to re-adjust the High Speed Needle to compensate for richening the LSN adjustment. We really recommend using a Temp Gauge when tuning this engine.
ALTERNATE CHOICE: IF WE ARE OUT OF STOCK OF THE TEAM ORION WASP 26 ENGINE, THEN CHECK TO SEE IF WE HAVE ANY OF THE OFNA PICCO 26 OUTLAW ENGINES IN STOCK. THESE ARE BOTH PICCO 26 ENGINES MADE BY PICCO IN ITALY. THEY ARE JUST DISTRIBUTED BY DIFFERENT COMPANIES WITH THEIR OWN NAMES. BASIC DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE 2 ENGINES IS COSMETIC - THE OFNA HAS A PURPLE COOLING HEAD WHILE THE TEAM ORION HAS A SILVER HEAD.
